Strategic Stealth and Combat
Strategic Stealth and Combat is the official Steam phrasing for how SILENT HILL: Townfall handles encounters. You can swing and block with melee weapons, keep distance with firearms, sneak from cover, or lure enemies with distractions. The game is first-person. The 18-minute Gameplay Trailer shows Otherworld combat with a pistol after Shorefront and Zoe's house. No official copy forces a single answer on every threat. Pair this page with the CRTV primer. The pocket television warns; these four verbs answer. Otherworld in the gameplay trailer is a fight space with a pistol, not a cutscene-only vision.

Four legal answers to one encounter
Steam about text lists melee, firearms, stealth from cover, and distraction in one breath. That list is the system. It is not a skill tree with unpublished point costs. When a threat appears, those four verbs remain available. The CRTV can frame the threat first; it does not retire the verbs.
Melee is close: swing and block. Firearms are range: a pistol is visible in the Otherworld chapter of the gameplay trailer. Stealth is cover, peeking, and not being seen. Distraction is luring so the town never forces a single answer. Japanese features copy groups stealth and combat choices with 1996 exploration, which means the same walk through St. Amelia can flip from street to fight without a separate mission select.
Konami has not published stamina numbers, magazine sizes, or enemy health. Konami has not published those tables. What you can take into the first hour is the official menu of verbs and the knowledge that Otherworld is a combat space, not only a cutscene.

First-person through Simon's eyes
Official copy calls Townfall the first full-length SILENT HILL game in first person. That camera choice is the combat camera. You aim a firearm, swing a melee weapon, and peek from cover as Simon Ordell. Marketing stills of his face still exist; they are not the play view.
First-person stealth depends on cover and peeking rather than a third-person shoulder. Official copy names stealth from cover as its own verb, so the game expects you to break line of sight, not only sprint. Distraction exists so you can move a threat instead of feeding it a melee swing.
Controller support is first-party: Steam lists full controller support, Steam Cloud, DualSense support, and single-player. PlayStation 5 is a confirmed SKU with DualSense motion reserved for CRTV tuning, not for inventing a motion-controlled melee mode. If you came here for a control diagram, Konami has not published one. Use the four verbs and the CRTV primer instead.
Otherworld combat in the gameplay trailer
The official Gameplay Trailer dated 20 August 2026 runs about 18 minutes. Its requested chapter labels are Shorefront, Zoe's house, and Otherworld combat. The Otherworld chapter is the first-party proof that the red layer is playable combat, including a pistol. That is the only named trailer chapter that is explicitly a fight.
Shorefront is the waterfront approach to the island town. Zoe's house belongs to the clinic nurse who speaks through the CRTV. Moving from her house into Otherworld is a trailer sequence, not a published unlock recipe. Do not read the chapter strip as a speedrun route.
Red stills of the Heart of St. Amelia monument and organic Otherworld figures show how the same civic square can become a fight space. Pair those images with St. Amelia for setting and with CRTV for the warning layer. The verbs stay the subject.
Bring the CRTV into that red layer the same way you bring it onto Shorefront. The set still flags threats. The pistol in the trailer is one legal answer, not the only one. Stealth from cover and distraction remain on the list even after the square turns red.
Unpublished combat numbers
There is no first-party bestiary with per-monster health, no named weapon ladder, and no Steam achievement roster yet. The public achievements page returned a community error while the product was still coming soon. Those gaps stay empty until Konami publishes those numbers.
Difficulty modes are not in the Steam copy used here. If Konami later publishes a difficulty list, it belongs on this route or on September 24, 2026, not on a new generic /guides/ tree. Townfall's own words are stealth and combat, not a beginner-guide taxonomy.
For buying decisions that affect how soon you play, 48-hour Deluxe early access is the only published time advantage. It does not change the four verbs. See Deluxe Edition. For the films that actually show fights, see Launch Trailer.
A generic /guides/ index would split this page from CRTV and from endings. Townfall's own words keep those jobs on their own URLs. Combat stays the verb list.
A first-session plan
Before the first encounter, know the four verbs and know that the CRTV can crackle first. Do not dump all resources into melee because a trailer showed a pistol. Do not assume stealth always works because the Steam phrase leads with stealth. Official copy presents a menu, not a ranking.
In Otherworld, expect a fight space. The gameplay trailer puts a pistol there on purpose. In Zoe's house and on Shorefront, expect exploration that can still flip. Japanese features copy puts exploration and combat choices in one list for that reason.
After the session, if you want endings talk, go to the confirmed note rather than a copied unlock post. If you want to buy Deluxe for the extra 48 hours, go to editions. Come back to the four verbs.
If a later patch adds a difficulty list or a weapon name, it belongs in a new factual row on this page, not in a generic beginner-guide URL.
Frequently asked questions
Can I stealth the whole game?
Steam lists stealth from cover as one of four encounter answers, alongside melee, firearms, and distraction. It does not promise a pacifist ending or a no-hit route. Multiple endings are confirmed as shaped by how you play, without an unlock table yet.
What weapon does the gameplay trailer show?
The official 18-minute Gameplay Trailer chapter on Otherworld combat shows a pistol as Simon enters that layer. Konami has not published a full firearm or melee catalogue beyond the verbs swing, block, and fire. Melee is described as swing and block. No other named guns are in the first-party list used here. Steam lists the four encounter verbs together, so a later session can mix them instead of locking one style for the whole island. Bring the CRTV into the same walk so a threat ping can precede the pistol, a sneak, or a distraction.
