CRTV
The CRTV is a pocket television that tunes unstable analog signals, the Silent Hill radio in a new shape. It flags nearby threats, collects fragments of town life and past events, and feeds narrative-driven puzzles; PlayStation 5 adds DualSense motion for that tuning.

Threats
It flags nearby unstable signals so you can pick melee, a firearm, stealth, or a distraction.
Town life fragments
It stores traces of St. Amelia's people and past events, including voices that already have names.
Narrative puzzles
Those fragments become the clues for narrative-driven puzzles, with DualSense as the tuner on PlayStation 5.

The CRTV helps identify or frame unstable signals and threatening encounters. Steam text says encounters may be melee, firearms, stealth from cover, or distraction. The pocket television does not replace those verbs. It tells you something is near so you can choose which verb to use. The 18-minute gameplay trailer still enters Otherworld with a pistol in hand, which is the point: the analog warning and the firearm sit in the same walk.
CRTV fragments connect to town life and past events on St. Amelia. They are not a second inventory of monster parts. Steam and Japanese character pages tie them to the island's people and history, including voices that already have names: Zoe at the family clinic and Richard on the other end of the set. When a fragment plays, it is evidence about the town, not a random radio sting.
Narrative-driven puzzles use CRTV fragments of town life and past events. Japanese features copy lists those puzzles beside 1996 exploration and stealth-and-combat choices. The DualSense twist on PlayStation 5 is the physical tuner for the same analog job. There is no first-party list of puzzle rooms or lock combinations, so this row stops at the official verb: tune, listen, then act on the fragment.
Radio successor, not a second phone
Steam about text is explicit: the series radio returns as the CRTV, a pocket television that tunes unstable analog signals. PlayStation Blog repeats the pocket-television job and adds DualSense motion. The Japanese features block places CRTV narrative puzzles in the same list as first-person framing and multiple endings. Those three first-party surfaces agree on the object and disagree on nothing material.
The set is analog because the year is 1996. You are not browsing a diegetic smartphone. You are twisting a tuner on a small CRT. Screen Burn's company name is a CRT joke; the in-game object is the CRTV. Do not conflate the studio rebrand with a second item in Simon's bag.
Key art shows Simon holding a small television on a fogged street. That is the product shot. The still has no extra knobs, channel numbers, or signal meters. Steam app 1636440 prints the pocket-television line in English storefront copy. Fake HUD chrome would invent a UI Konami has not published.

Who speaks through the set
Zoe, a nurse at the local family clinic, speaks to Simon through a noisy CRTV. Kezia Burrows portrays her; 甲斐田 裕子 voices her in Japanese. Richard speaks through the same object, tells Simon to return and settle things, and is portrayed by Terry O'Quinn with Japanese voice 大塚 明夫. Those credits come from Konami cast press and the Japanese character pages.
The CRTV is therefore both a threat pinger and a telephone. Fragments of town life can be Zoe's clinic, Richard's summons, or unnamed past events. Konami has not published a call log. If you need the people, open Jovan Adepo for the three-row table and Simon Ordell for the man holding the set.
Pre-order cosmetics change how the CRTV looks, not what it does. CRTV Style: Rusted is on Standard and Deluxe. CRTV Style: Beach Edition is a PlayStation 5 exclusive pre-order cosmetic. Deluxe also includes 48-hour early access and Simon's Outfit: Alternate. Cosmetic styles are listed on Deluxe Edition; they are not extra channels.
What sits beside the set
The three disclosure rows above are the jobs Steam and Konami named. Strategic Stealth and Combat is the verb layer once a threat is in range: you can still sneak, distract, swing, or fire after the set crackles. Treating the CRTV as a fail-safe that fights for you is not in Steam or PlayStation Blog text.
DualSense motion for tuning is the PlayStation 5 note from PlayStation Blog. Steam lists DualSense controller support on the Windows build, so a DualSense on PC is a supported controller, not a second SKU. Deep links on this page use the row ids; keyboard users get the same open and close as pointer users.
Island facts for fragments live on St. Amelia. Konami has not published lock codes or a puzzle-room list. After a session, the useful next reads are stealth for the four verbs and the cast table for who is speaking through the set.
Frequently asked questions
Is the CRTV the old Silent Hill radio?
Steam text says the series radio returns as the CRTV, a pocket television that tunes unstable analog signals. It is the successor in function: a portable analog warning and story device. It is not described as the same physical prop from an earlier game.
Does the CRTV work on PC?
The CRTV is a game system on every listed platform. DualSense motion for tuning is the PlayStation 5-specific note from PlayStation Blog. Steam lists DualSense controller support for the Windows build, so a DualSense on PC is a supported controller, not a second SKU.
